Education

The DRC offers a variety of customized workshops and events to broaden the community’s understanding of the nature of conflict, and how to more effectively manage conflict, solve problems, and resolve differences. Representatives from the DRC are always available to speak at to various organizations and their staff, clients, members etc.

Parent – Teen Communication Workshops
The DRC offers 2 classes to assist parents and teenagers.

The first is a 2.5 hour workshop specifically designed for parents and teens to help them better understand and improve communication. This class is offered quarterly in cooperation with the Juvenile Justice Center. At the beginning of the evening, parents and teens are separated for a time of instruction, and then the two groups are brought together to discuss and practice what has been learned. In 2011, these classes are scheduled for January 24, April 25, July 25, and October 24.

The second Parent/Teen class offered by the DRC is a 2 hour class for parents only to help them understand the nature of conflict with adolescents, and to give practical tools to help them communicate more effectively with their teen(s). This class is offered on an occasional basis, according to interest. Please check our website calendar for upcoming classes.

Conflict & You
This monthly class is offered in partnership with the Benton-Franklin Juvenile Justice Center. The focus of this class is to work with first time offenders helping them to develop the skills to better manage conflict and improve communication.
